This Is The Real Deal
Ok. I’m impressed. Seriously impressed. The amount of info offered up by this scale is crazy. Being able to see 56 health metrics in one app is equal (…and even better than in some cases…) to the results you can receive by using the giant-sized floor machines at your gym.The Basics: The scale is a high quality build. It’s not a flimsy bathroom accessory that you pick up at the mall. High grade materials and a design that is sleek and strong. Smooth edges and bright LEDs. It is weighty enough to not slide around your bathroom floor, but not so heavy that you can’t pick it up and take it room to room. And it’s good looking. A super high gloss finish that gives it a modern tech aesthetic. (That’s my ceiling that’s reflected in the photo. It’s a sleek flat finish, but it literally reflects everything in the room.)The handle that incorporates the EIGHT electrodes is equally bright and shiny. The cord attachment is thick enough to do the job without being overly clunky. Pulls up and retracts easily. The Tech: The app is easy to sync up. Fitness isn’t an overnight magic bean, so it’s great that you can store and track your progress on your phone. Many BIA scales only use 4 electrodes…doubling up to 8 means that your entire body can be scanned more accurately. This scale is so specific that it even realized my dominant arm was a little bigger and stronger than my lazy arm, which is true for almost every human being. The hand you write with does all the heavy lifting, no pun intended. The whole point of this scale is not to step on it one time and see if you need to stop eating pizza or not. This is about your fitness journey. So many metrics that you know you should monitor but may not have had a good way to track until now. It will take a few months to see which direction you are heading as you hit the gym or power walk around the neighborhood, but that’s the point. Would totally recommend grabbing this as you set your goals.PS. Thanks for the free batteries!!

Nice but frustrating
Nice design, many features, but refuses to link to the internet or my phone.

The handle makes the difference over my older BMI scale
I’d been using a foot only body composition scale for a while and was getting readings I never fully trusted. Everything I read said that scales with a handle, the ones that take the upper body reading in addition to the feet, are more accurate because they’re sending a current through more of your body. That’s what finally pushed me to replace the old one.Setup was straightforward. The app paired on the first try, got my profile set up in a few minutes, and pulled in my existing Google Fit connection without me having to manually re-enter anything. I track everything through Google Fit, so that integration mattered a lot to me. If the scale data couldn’t flow to where the rest of my health data lives, I wouldn’t bother with a new scale at all.The readings are different from what my old scale was giving me, especially on the body fat percentage side. I can’t tell you which one is more accurate without a DEXA scan to compare against, but I’ve stopped treating these numbers as absolutes. For trends over weeks and months, which is honestly the only useful way to read a home scale, it’s consistent with itself morning to morning. The handle is comfortable and the app walks you through when to pick it up during the measurement process. The whole thing takes maybe 20 seconds start to finish. If you’re in the market for a step up from a foot only smart scale and you want the data to end up in Google Fit without wrestling with third party bridges, this one does what you need it to.

USELESS. —- IMPOSSIBLE TO CONNECT AND SYNC THE APP
I now have three of these that measure ONY. Weight!!! Customer service is untrained and no one is familiar with the third party app. Impossible to connect and sync the app on three different scales.

Accurate scale, but the body composition metrics need a serious credibility caveat
The Herz P1 arrives well packaged and comes loaded with QR codes to guide you straight to the correct companion app, which turns out to be more necessary than it might first seem. The app gives no indication of what scale it pairs with until you actually connect the unit, so without those codes you would be left guessing. Once you work through the lengthy end user license agreements required before getting started, it is worth pausing to consider what health data you are actually agreeing to share. I tend to be more cautious than average when apps are handling personal health information, and the breadth of the EULA here gave me genuine pause.Actual use of the scale is straightforward. Stand barefoot on the platform, hold the bar at chest height, and wait a few seconds while it runs through its calculations. The result is a full page of metrics covering body fat, water weight, muscle mass, and a range of additional figures. The 8-electrode, dual-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis approach is a real step up from standard 4-electrode consumer scales, using both hand and foot contact points to build a more complete picture of body composition rather than extrapolating mostly from lower body data alone. That said, two measurements taken just eight minutes apart, under conditions that differed by nothing more than a modest change in body weight, produced results that should give any data-minded buyer serious pause. The scale’s weight reading tracked the change accurately and reasonably. The body composition figures, however, swung dramatically, with muscle mass, water weight, fat distribution, and overall physical score all reporting shifts that are simply not physiologically possible over that time span. A drop of several pounds of muscle mass and a simultaneous jump of several pounds of subcutaneous fat do not happen in eight minutes. BIA technology is well known to be sensitive to hydration, recent food or fluid intake, and body state, but the degree of variance seen here goes well beyond what that sensitivity alone would explain. The scale’s own printed disclaimer, to its credit, acknowledges that the data is intended as a fitness reference and is not recommended as a basis for medical decisions. As a basic weight scale, it performs reliably. A practical baby or child weighing function, where you step on while holding a child and subtract your own weight, is a convenient addition. The body composition figures may have value as very rough, long-term directional indicators if measured consistently under identical conditions, but treating individual readings as meaningful data is not something this testing supports.
