Super compact and aesthetically pleasing sound machine and alarm clock. Out of the box it’s quite easy to use, and comes with a cord but not charging block. On the free app you can customize the sounds, volume, timers, alarms, and more without a subscription. The sound quality is great and is constantly changing slightly, so you don’t notice any loops. You are able to use it without the app, but there is so much customization you can do on the app. It lasts several nights on one charge, but I would just leave it plugged in so you don’t have to worry about the battery running out.

Without it, it’s pretty similar to most other ones.With the app, on a decent amount of the soundscapes you’re able to go into the soundscape and change each individual sound’s levels, including all the way down to off. So for instance, if there are 2-3 types of birds, 2 cricket tracks, a stream track, etc, you can make it just crickets, or all of them, or any other combination. The one thing I don’t like about that part is that if you have all of the individual volumes set pretty low, it adjusts the overall volume louder – so it comes out the same if you turn everything to one notch above silent *or* to the highest volume. It’s not too big of a deal, but it feels a bit counterintuitive.On the white noise machine, the part that you tap on the top to get it to start and stop is the solid white part with “TimeVocalist” on it – it doesn’t work if you tap anywhere else on the top. It took me a bit to figure that out; at first I was wondering why sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn’t, and I thought it was finnicky with sensing touch. It’s also not heat-based, so if you set something on it – even something light like a credit card – it’s enough for it to start up, or sometimes to say the time.To get it to say the time, you long-press on that same solid white strip; to get it to say the date, you do the same thing again. And it can do it in a bunch of languages, which is cool, so if you’re learning a language you could have it say the time in that language to get used to hearing whatever time of day like that.It’s not super lightweight, but it’s not overly heavy either (enough to be stable and not get knocked over, though). The part with the volume, track, and power buttons is the bottom, and it has a rubber ring on it so it won’t slide across a table. I wish the strap was on the other part, because as it is if you go to pick it up by the strap, it’s going to tip over and thumb against whatever it’s sitting on (a minor nitpick, but it’s bugged me a few times already 😅).The battery life seems reasonably good. I haven’t had it playing all night – I use the timer so it shuts off after 60 or 90 minutes – but it hasn’t actually *needed* a charge over a couple of weeks where I’ve used it on some nights and not others.There’s a diffuse blue light (underneath the volume up button) on the bottom that doesn’t shut off while it’s playing, and that’s kind of bothersome in a dark room. Similarly, there are three littler dots of green light where how many are on are determined by the duration it’s set to stop after (and none are on if you just have it go indefinitely). You cycle between those by pressing the power button. None of the lights are overly bright, but I’m sensitive to light, and my room is entirely dark at night (blackout curtains, no clock, etc).I haven’t figured out the alarms or the sleep timer yet. I’ve tried setting a few, and at least a couple of times it came on an hour earlier than it was supposed to, and sometimes it hasn’t come on at all. So most of my 4/5 instead of 5/5 is due to that; I read the little instruction foldout-booklet and I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. There’s a daylight savings time toggle in the app, but I don’t think it’s related to that, because when I long-press the white strip to have it say the time, it matches my actual time.It has a little flap covering the charging port, and it feels attached well enough that it isn’t going to just break off after the cable props it open a few times. When it’s charging there’s a red light under the volume down button, and that turns green when it’s done.
