Great kitchen scale with a smart design
I’ve been using the OXO Good Grips 5-lb Kitchen Scale for a while now, and it has quickly become a staple in my kitchen. The standout feature is the pull-out display, which makes a huge difference when using large bowls — no more guessing or moving containers just to see the numbers.The scale is easy to use, accurate, and very readable, even in low light thanks to the backlit screen. The tare function works perfectly, which is essential for baking and measuring multiple ingredients in the same bowl.I also appreciate the slim design. Small, compact, readable display
This is a nice, compact food scale that is easy to use and has a clear display. The pull out feature of the display lets you use with a larger bowl and still see the measure. Using gram weights also can eliminate the need for measuring cups and spoons for more accurate cooking and baking and less clean-up. The 5 lb limit is pretty versatile.

Excellent kitchen accessory
This weigh scale is very easy to use and easy to store. I actually keep it in one of my kitchen drawers since it takes up so little room. The scale is accurate, and I like being able to zero out a bowl when I put it on top of the scale to hold whatever I am weighing. I use it to weigh out pasta for casseroles. Also, I purchase five pound packages of ground beef at a time and use the scale to divide the beef into one pound packages. I don’t weigh anything over 5 pounds, so that weight limit doesn’t bother me. Highly recommended.

Nice scale
Love the scale and how the gage plate pulls out. This is my 2nd one like this.BUT, I thought my first one was old and errored out when I’d make sourdough bread and had over 450g (1lb) of flour. It’s rated for over 5lbs. Brand new one has same issue.I’ll try to reach out to seller.

Timeout With Good Behavior
I have been searching for a long time to find a scale that does NOT have an irritating, short timeout. Finally, after 2 weeks with this OXO 5lb. Food scale I think I’ve found one.Here’s how it works. After 5 minutes of inactivity the illuminated display goes dim. But it still recalls the weight of whatever is on it for another 10 minutes. Tap the weighed item with your finger and the display lights up instantly with perfect memory of your weighed item, and the entire timeout sequence restarts anew.If you leave it unused for more than 15 minutes the scales shuts down and the memory of the weighed item is lost – it will read Zero if you turn it on again. If you have good lighting, and good eyes, you can actually read the scale during the last 10 minutes of the timeout. It’s very dim, but you can see the digits if you look closely.There is a feature that keeps the scale on forever (or a bug depending on how you feel about this). If you zero out an item on the scale (say your steel mixing bowl) and remove it, the scale will naturally read a negative amount. What’s interesting is that as long as it’s reading a negative amount it never turns itself off (well, I waited over 30 minutes and didn’t turn off, so I am making an assumption here). I think the idea is that the scale knows it is in use, and waits patiently for you to return with your bowl and get back to work. I love this feature, but from reading other reviews it’s clear others do not.Another nice thing – the display lights up – this is better than simple backlighting as each segment of each digit glows. The scale is accurate to 1 gram (perfectly matched out existing scale during my testing). This scale is cheaper than another OXO model that has a stainless steel rather than plastic weighing tray. We have loads of stainless steel in our kitchen at the moment and I am perfectly content with the all plastic design. Of course if you need 10 lb. capacity, rather than 5 lb. then you will want the stainless steel model.For those among us that are capable of manually turning off appliances this may be one of the best 5 lb. scales on the market.

Perfect weight item for insulin intake.
My daughter is a diabetic and measures everything. This has helped her insulin intake. It is accurate, and has a pull out where she can read what she is measuring. It’s easy to clean and she loves it.

Love the pullout control panel and large capacity
I use this to measure ingredients for baking. It has been working great. In some cases I’m putting ingredients into a 12 qt tub — the pullout display is critical then as I would not be able to read the display unless it was pulled out. I love being able to measure out large quantities (e.g. multiple lbs or as much as 2 kg).Note: I’m using gram measurements, which is the finest precision level the scale has to offer. That’s great for 10s or 100s of grams, but when measuring quantities that require finer precision (a few grams or fractions of a gram) I use a a different scale, a mini coffee scale: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3TBNNJ9
